History

Sans Souci comes with a chequered history starting in 1906 when it was part of the property called Salt Bungalow. The Salt Bungalow was built as the office of the Salt Commissioner during British rule in India. The property was acquired by the current owners in 1962 and has served as a scenic picnic location for the family bringing many years of family joy and memories. It also has been the site of more than 100 film shootings with the greats of Tamil Cinema – Kamal Haasan and Mohan shooting in Salt Bungalow and Sans Souci. In the late 2000s, a portion of the property was acquired for the construction of the Ennore expressway connector bridge to Kattupalli island – the site of the Kamaraj Port. So the property has since been divided into two – The original Salt Bungalow and the new Sans Souci.
